hmmm REallY? 0r34LLLYz?

Terrorists Evolve. Threats Evolve. Security Must Stay Ahead. You Play A Part.. now move a long before we throw you in jail and put you on the no fly-list…

This is getting a lot of attention, and I have to say it is quite amusing. Trying to humanize a group that does just the opposite to the people they are supposedly “protecting.”

TSA blorg @ hxxp://tsa.gov/blog/
*EDIT: apparently google shows all links, so I had a nice surge in traffic
all referred from the direct href.. I don’t particularly want my site linked directly off the tsa site, thanks google.
*and doesn’t that splash screen look familiar? evolx?

Reading through the comments left by people, it seems that they are actually putting peoples complaints out for everyone. ( At least the civil comments from those that aren’t being complete asses and trolling..) Of course there are the few “We love you thanks…” and “I have worked for TSA for..” This is nothing more then a PR smokescreen to make it look like there is a small amount of intelligence in an agency that gets way too much money and hires individuals with sub-human intelligence and authority complexes.

Digging a little deeper, Meet our bloggers.. Good ole Bob, Ethel, Jay, Chance, Jim are on the job.. let us not forget good ole Kip. If that doesn’t sound like the all american corn-fed, white super team that is out to protect you from them nasty towel wearing ‘terrists, I don’t know what does.

Seriously.. are these people real? I would like to think an MIT graduate that studied EE, Bio and CS would be working elsewhere.. If these people are in fact working for TSA, they are upper level management that has probably never had to endure going through a security checkpoint at a major airport.

Here is an idea.. I would like to see the people actually doing the grunt work writing these blogs. OH WAIT. You have to have an IQ more then that of a rock to turn a computer on. These are the same slags that are keeping Microsoft a float.

Don’t get me wrong. I am a white, middle american kid and I have rarely been harrased or pulled aside for more then a “secondary” screening on my international flights.. But flying out of DET, LAX, ORD.. that blog roll would more closely resemble Enrique, Latifah, Pablo, Cedric and Jon.

Anyways, it will be really fun to watch. I look forward to Ethel and Jay’s blogs!

:(

* Side note, I actually had a really pleasant interaction with a Latifah in LAX not to long ago. Her pleasant voice and attitude was actually quite refreshing for the hell that is LAX, especially considering the dickhead in front me wanted to argue and complain about everything.

port knocking and honeypotting..

This is a pretty interesting project, shimmer

shimmer is a pair of small programs (a client and a server) that provide an alternative to port knocking program such as tumbler and are used to hide a valuable port (such as a hidden web server or SSH) on a public IP address.

shimmer works by cryptographically changing a set of 16 ports (one of which forwards to the real service, and 15 others that lead to a trap to blacklist attackers). The 16 ports change every minute frustrating an attacker, but a legimitate user with access to a secret shared between the client and server can determine the real port, avoid blacklisting, and get a connection.

Twittr..

I have been using twittr for a few months now. More of a note-to-self and japanese study aid tool. I don’t particularly think that it is a fairly useful, but it is sort of an interesting take on blogging/instant updates.

Who else out there is twittering?

Update your 5/5.5 gen ipod to gen6 features..

For those of you that are not upgrading to a iPod classic or the new mini, here is a firmware hack the updates the 5/5.5 gen to have the same functionality ( Coverflow and split screen playback.) It seems to work really well and isn’t too slow with coverflow (although, only perhaps 40% of my music has cover art..)

goooooowy!

Goowy.com. This is pretty interesting concept, although I don’t know that it is useful. Anyways, it’s like an OSX session via the web minus all the applications (with the exception of games, rss feeds, mail and calendar.) I am guessing this is the latest in the long line of ‘web 2.0′ apps.

It is worth playing with.
