An old topic, but my diet in general falls within the guidelines of a macrobiotic diet. I cannot help but to feel this has a huge positive affect both on my physical and mental health, especially since I moved to Tokyo.
Things I have cut out of my diet:
Fried chicken and other friend foods (occasionally some fried chicken.. maybe once a month)
Junk food in general (candy bars, ice cream, gum, assorted other candies.)
* On a side note to this, I do eat a lot of trail mix (mountain trail mix from costco.. perhaps the bad thing in this is the m&ms..)
Soda- (occasionally I will have a can of coke.. again maybe once to twice a month and usually after a long work out.. perhaps lack of sugar..)
Traditional Western meals with fatty content.
Heavy drinking..
This added to diet:
More nuts and fruits (as snacks in between meals)
More legumes; beans, lentils and edamame..
Tofu and natto
More tempe
More fish and japanese style food (和食)
Being around people that don’t eat to occupy all their free time also helps quite a bit. Riding my bike everyday is also beneficial, part of the reason I chose an apartment that was 15 minutes by bike from the station. So exercise, healthy diet and moderate indulgences in alcohol and sweets/greasy foods..
