Happy New Years..

Happy New Year’s everyone!

I am off to northern japan to enjoy the onsens and fresh food that makes tohoku famous. Leaving shortly for the 3 hour shinkansen to Akita. A week in the mountains .. fresh air, fresh fish, freshness all around! What better way to bring in the New Year!

Best too all of you and be safe!

hacking the body..

An old topic, but my diet in general falls within the guidelines of a macrobiotic diet. I cannot help but to feel this has a huge positive affect both on my physical and mental health, especially since I moved to Tokyo.

Things I have cut out of my diet:
Fried chicken and other friend foods (occasionally some fried chicken.. maybe once a month)
Junk food in general (candy bars, ice cream, gum, assorted other candies.)
* On a side note to this, I do eat a lot of trail mix (mountain trail mix from costco.. perhaps the bad thing in this is the m&ms..)
Soda- (occasionally I will have a can of coke.. again maybe once to twice a month and usually after a long work out.. perhaps lack of sugar..)
Traditional Western meals with fatty content.
Heavy drinking..

This added to diet:
More nuts and fruits (as snacks in between meals)
More legumes; beans, lentils and edamame..
Tofu and natto
More tempe
More fish and japanese style food (和食)

Being around people that don’t eat to occupy all their free time also helps quite a bit. Riding my bike everyday is also beneficial, part of the reason I chose an apartment that was 15 minutes by bike from the station. So exercise, healthy diet and moderate indulgences in alcohol and sweets/greasy foods..

Merry Christmas..

Merry holidays everyone. Hope you are well and enjoying yourselves.

I had a wonderful Christmas here with a fabulous home cooked meal by the girlfriend. We will be heading off to Akita this friday to celebrate the new year’s in the traditional japanese way with her family. ( visiting the family shrine and following it up with lots of fresh fish and sake!)

On a side note; the line at the KFC near my apartment was nearly 60 people deep with a 2 hour wait. Why you ask? Fried Chicken is the christmas food here, well that and christmas cake. I guess ham is not popular, that is fine by me though!

Word pray.. err… word play..

Christian missionary spreads the word … and legs of 14-year-old girl…

The articles on this site are always amusing. The translators are really funny.

Follow up to Nalgene replacment post..

Mountain Equipment Co-op, the country’s largest specialty outdoor-goods retailer, says it has pulled most food and beverage containers made of polycarbonate plastic from its shelves, citing concern over possible health risks.

Health risks are derived from the fact the bisphenol-a can mimic estrogen. Perhaps this explains why hippies are such smug bi-yatches..

Either way, I recently acquired a sigg.ch bottle. There is a huge difference in the taste of the water, it is really surprising. For those that say nalgenes don’t leave a taste ( I used to!) switch. And after a week, tell me that the water doesn’t taste different.
