I will pre-empt the post with the fact I am a bit of a math nerd. Being a comp. sci and math major, that should be a given.
I have started to develop a theory about living in Japan, more-so in Tokyo. I have recently noticed certain aspects of the people and the places I have been seeing and interacting with.. I thought it might be fun to start making some notes as to what I am seeing and then do some statistical analysis, more so along the lines of frequency. The data IS biased in the following ways: my personal ideals of beauty, sanity, hygiene, and general awareness. As if follows, this will be the first in a multi-post entry that deals with the above.
Beauty-
As I walk down a busy street in any given city in the Tokyo metropolis, various styles of fashions and styles can be seen. In fact Tokyo is well known for its “street fashion” and expensive boutiques. It holds true that this includes buses, trains, cabs, bicycles, motorcycles and all forms of transportation in between. The sheer amount of money that is spent on clothing and accessories is ridiculous. I see people sporting Omega watches, Louis Vuitton briefcases and armani suits on a daily basis. A majority of women can be seen with Coach, Gucci, Vuitton and number other Italian and European brands that cost enough to feed several sub-saharan villages for a month.
In addition, a majority of the women are very well proportioned. I would say 7 out of 10 women here are in the extremely attractive bracket. This is my based on my view of body type, not bathing in makeup, exercise (toned bodies), and general appearances (teeth/smile, stature, posture and general happiness in their eyes.) I am generally classifying women whom I think are in the age range of 20 - 35, obviously excluding school girls (but not college.)
With this in mind, 1 of 10 is average and 2 of 10 is very American eg overweight or just in need of exercise (put down the big mac.)
So as it stands, 8 out of 10 women, at any given time are attractive. I think in american, more so St. Louis, this is the exact opposite, 2 of 10 women are attractive while the rest could use a bit of work.
**This of course does not reflect personality or actual knowledge of the person. This is just an opinion of a guy walking down the street, absorbing his surroundings, trying not to get whiplash. I fully acknowledge that my personal bias various and of course once I get to know a person these weighted numbers shift. There is a lot more then what is on the outside.
Next Up, the thirty percenters…
