This is where I will be living as of tomorrow night!
The only problem being I also start my new job tomorrow. For some reason they wouldn’t let me move my stuff in tonight, even though I am still at a hotel. So after work I have to haul near 50kg of baggage from eastern tokyo to western tokyo. Luckily the hotel owner likes me, and short of marrying his daughter, he agreed to let me keep my luggage here till after work tomorrow. So I have 1 huge samonsite back that weighs about 35 kg that I will take first and hopefully after that come back and get my suit bag and my bogu. The funny thing is that the real estate agent and owner have to meet me, and I dont get off work till 6:30. After that I will go to get my bags and then head to the office. So I should get there about 8. Their office closes at 6, so I guess karma has a way off coming back to them. The only thing is this doesn’t leave me time to get a futon, so maybe I will use my dogi as a sleeping bag… I should have gotten a hotel in the area, so all my luggage would be there. Hindsight…
Oh well, jobs starts tomorrow… I am excited and nervous.. new job jitters. I had to sit through some ridiculous pre-job guidance, including a ridiculous handbook and test on the basics of information security ie handling of secure information and measures to protect the client. This is all and good, but the japanese take on it is funny.. one such thing as- “If you are going to go out to drink with colleagues, don’t take work with you. People loose things when they drink.” and another “Don’t talk with clients about projects outside of the office, if you do, change the names and data pertaining to the site. This would include on the train, elevators and bars.” A lot of the information was valid, but it was just funny.
Another topic included japanese women. Especially regarding issues with japanese women in the office, especially the propensity to develop almost stalker-like attachment to foreigners. Basically don’t shit where you eat, or maybe …don’t eat the hot soup where you work? This was a guy to guy speech, coming from an aussie that used to work there. In the scheme of things, I had to wonder if this was given to everyone ( ‘pinos and indians [dot not feather] included) or just to the caucasian anglo saxon english speakers. This is a question I will ask some of the pinos I will be working with. It’s very strange being a commodity, but I don’t have to worry about it.
Good to know you have several 7-11’s to get your slurpee fix from after your trip to soapland.
Too bad they dont have slurpees here though…
What! No octopus slurpee?
