Just got back from a week in the Republic of Korea, or South Korea as pretty much everyone in the world calls it. Went to Seoul and the DMZ { Panmunjom, Camp Bonifas/Joint Security Zone, 3rd Tunnel, and a forward observation post.}
This is me and a RoK soldier, I am standing in North Korea.
From picture orientation, the left is South Korea and the right is North. The table is where NATO and NK hold their talks. You can find more pics on here. There are pics of the propaganda village and the 3rd tunnel. Being these are active military sites, photography was only allowed in specific areas.

It is hard to see here, but click on the pic. There is a North Korean soldier on duty on the top of the stairs of the opposite building. There is also an open window, in which appears to be a telescopic lense, probably a camera. At this point we are told not to make hand gestures and to keep our hands at our side as NK takes pictures and likes to use them in their propaganda. So I might be in some NK propaganda.. SWEET.
This is the NK propaganda village (Gijeong-dong ). The flag pole is the largest in the world, somewhere over 150m tall. The flag has a dry weight of around 600lbs and is over 6 stories in height. Takes a huge wind to get it waving. This was in response to SK building a flag pole that was around 80m tall.
In front of the village you will see an open field and then a forest. The forest is actually the military demarcation line, or no man land. The field and village are the NK side of the DMZ.
Going here was an interesting experience, and I would recommend the USO tour to anyone that has a free day in Seoul. It is also the cheapest of any of the tours.
More to come.
